I know enough to disagree with your premise. Edison was involved with 
dozens, perhaps as many as a hundred businesses during his lifetime. Most 
of these either failed outright, or were absorbed into what became 
General Electric. I'm convinced that GE survived only because of the 
involvement of the Morgans and other smart businessmen. Edison had a 
talent for self-promotion perhaps, but not business. On the other hand, 
the Labs essentially died with him, which might also suggest something.
