Fast Track on "life support" - Sept. 29 Barron's

In case you missed this ....
  >From the "D.C. Current" section of this week's Barron's, which is some sort
  of magazine:

" 'FAST TRACK' LEGISLATION IS ON LIFE SUPPORT.
Republicans in the House have just 120 votes in support of the measure,
which would give President Clinton the authority he seeks to enter into new
trade agreements with no participation by Congress in the negotiating stage,
and there aren't enough pro-trade Democrats in the House to provide a
winning margin. The upshot: There will be no bill this year and small
chance for it in the next
  congressional session."

  Well:
This corresponds to our analysis here at Public Citizen's Global Trade
Watch. However, we are constrained to observe that the Big Business
multi-million $$ PR juggernaut is only just now getting underway -- a day
late, as it were, but never a dollar short for these Free Trade Fatcats.

Therefore, we recommend that all Fair Trade activists should redouble
efforts and amp up all grassroots lobbying activities.

[Maybe it's me, but the Barron's Blurb seems to downplay the Historic
Significance of our winning efforts to stop NAFTA expansion in the 104th and
now, touch wood, the 105th Congresses -- M. Dolan]
