Road traffic accidents up

  Road traffic accidents up

Diana, ex-wife of Charles Windsor, died in a tragic car crash at the close
of August. She was driving too fast. Britain looked shocked and sad, and the
radio stations played tragic music for days on end. The people dreamed of
purity as they projected their own shining immanence on to her, confusing
inner archetypes with a public figure. Yet at the same time they empathised
with her suffering, knowing that she was, after all, one of them. Out of
respect for 'the People's Princess', royalists abandoned the idea of
God-given privilege, shared the wealth they had accumulated, and were
accepted back into the fold of ordinary people. Governments around the world
decided that the least they could do would be to introduce a comprehensive
ban on land mines, but knowing that Diana was a single-issue campaigner,
stopped short of ending exploitation, reminding the people that things
  aren't that simple.
