RE: Working Assets Hypocrisy

Mike,

Thanks for posting this. I had wondered about Green Mountain.
Biomass...hmmm...is that trash or sludge or trees...landfill gas has vinyl
chloride monomer in it, and is surely a dioxin generator.

Thanks
Jon

While Working Assets asks its members to write letters on dioxin issues,
it's also engaging in a marketing scheme with a company that makes money
selling "green" energy that in part comes from dioxin-emitting sources.

Working Assets is partnered with GreenMountain.com Company (formerly Green
Mountain Energy Resources, LLC) to advertise their "green" energy products
to current and former Working Assets customers. In their sales pitch, they
explain that if you switch to Green Mountain Energy, part of your electric
bills will go to support the environmental groups that are affiliated with
Working Assets. The more energy you use, the more money goes to the
environmental groups. This provides no incentive to reduce energy use
(they should give more $$ to enviro groups if you use LESS, not more).

GreenMountain.com Company is subject to a boycott by several local,
regional and national environmental organizations over their use of
"biomass" (incineration) and landfill gas as "renewable energy" sources.
The boycott was initiated by the Pennsylvania Environmental Network (PEN)
and is growing rapidly.

I have written a series of articles for PEN on "green" energy and Green
Mountain which is available online at http://www.penweb.org/issues/energy/

If any groups are interested in joining the boycott or learning more about
what green energy means for your state (if you're in the U.S.), don't
hesitate to contact me by phone or email. My phone # is available on the
website referenced above.
