waste incinerators: A major source



  In addition to dioxin, waste incinerators release lots of mercury into
  the environment.  In fact, every year, The Regional Waste Systems
  incinerator in Portland, Maine discharges 300 pounds of mercury into the
  air. Alike dioxin, mercury accumulates up the food chain, beginning with
