consolidation

Any thoughts on the continuing consolidations?  When is Wal-Mart going to
begin offering local phone service?

Also, what is the deal with tracking stocks?  Can there really ever be true
underlying value if companies can divide themselves into artificial
divisions?  Doesn't it invite a shifting of liabilities and assets between
imaginary units?  Please help me understand.
