Why have we failed?
That is my question. Some of us think that the government shouldn't
need to step in and fix what's wrong with the Microsoft situation. In
many ways, they are correct. We are all fervent participants in the
battle to bring this corporate giant under reign. In the new
"Information Age" will we be the ones responsible for allowing a new
dark ages of coporate control?
So "Why have we failed to bring the correct solutions to the
public?"
Are the solutions we propose incorrect? What have we missed?
Who has tried to figure out what we are doing wrong which has
allowed this domination to continue?
I have seen proposals for standards concerning information ranging
from developing standards to the system by which internet standards are
set (RFC's). Why aren't these being successful? Are they too inefficient
and cumbersome? Can they be made efficient?
I just honestly wanted to take a "root-cause" approach to analyze
our failure. I realize these might seem like very basic questions.
