AOL/Netscape: Name of DOJ contact

Earlier I had indicated that the Justice Department was interviewing Internet
Service Providers to learn more about the impact of the proposed AOL/Netscape
merger, which specific emphasize (roughly speakng):

1. the issue of having AOL and MS control the software platform that the
non-content ISPs use to compete against AOL and MS,

2. The degree to which the merger gives AOL and MS the ability to migrate Web
technologies off open standards to proprietary standards,

3. The importance of continued support of the Mozilla.Org project to the
independent IPSs (AOL refuses to provide any commitments so far regarding future
support for Mozilla).

4. The types of commitments regarding support for Mozilla or third party
licensing of the browser, future browser technologies, etc, that would protect
the non-content ISPs from efforts to migrate technologies to non-open platforms.

     Or similiar issues.

The contact person at the US Department of Justice on this issue is Jim Tierney,
who can be reached at: (202) 307-0797, or by email at james.tierney@usdoj.gov
