Re: Copyright infringement - basis for a SLAPP suit
While copyright law is the particular weapon being used,
the freedom of speech people might be more helpful
- aren't parodies and satire well-protected forms of dissent
in the U.S. especially in regard to political issues?
> BTW, what is SLAPP? Stupid Lawyers And Paper Pushers? ;-)
nice guess :) it's an acronym for
Strategic Lawsuit Against Public Participation
Some sources of info on SLAPPs:
California Anti-SLAPP Project
http://sirius.com/~casp
Pamela Samuelson's comments on the White Paper on IPR and the NII
http://www.eff.org/pub/Intellectual_property/tightening_copyright_noose.article
notes that the White Paper proposes "the elimination of the fair use defense
and every other public policy limitation on the control copyright owners can
exercise over protectee works". I haven't been following U.S. politics -
did a bill ever get passed based on those recommendations?
Cheers,
