Re: March 26 meeting on Compulsory Licensing
I think the formation of some type of International coalition on this will be a
good thing, and maybe there will be an opportunity for NGOs to write up some
type of statement for sign-ons, with some specific "what you can do" elements.
This issue is very important, and we should be able to accomplish a lot right
now, particularly given the interest in the global crisis for AIDS and other
infectious diseases. I will be posting more information about this topic.
On a somewhat related front, there is a grass root effort to support the so
called Sanders bill (hr 626) on government funded medical research. A FAQ about
this bill is on the web at:
http://www.cptech.org/ip/health/econ/rp-faq.html
The group coordinating the grass roots effort is Beth Daley, at a group called
Pogo (http://www.pogo.org). Beth can be reached by email at beth@pogo.org.
