anti-oil-activities in Germany
Dear friends,
The "Arbeitskreis Nigeria / Aktion Ogoni Hamburg" as well as the organizers
of Germany's 1997 Ken Saro-Wiwa Week call for a participation of German
groups to participate in the 100 days campaign against oil consumption.
We are proposing a national day of action on November 8, motto: "Die Welt
erstickt am Oel" (The world suffocates from oil). The groups tackling the
Nigeria issue should join in picketing at Shell stations all over the country
during morning hours. Other groups could join with activities concerning
their respective targets. For the afternoon of that day we're calling for a
national protest rally in Hamburg marching to the seat of the German
Association of the Oil Industry.
Our activities will be part of the Ken Saro-Wiwa Memorial Week that will be
centered in Hamburg this year. It is organized together with us by MOSOP,
"The Nigerian Common Cause" and the "United Democratic Front of
Nigeria"/German section.
The schedule at the moment is the following:
Thursday, Nov. 6: "Does Nigeria Face Another Civil War?", Discussion
Friday, Nov., 7: Literary evening and theatre performance
Saturday, Nov. 8: National day of action "The World Suffocates from Oil"
morning: Nigeria activists picket at Shell stations
afternoon: protest rally "The World Suffocates from Oil" through downtown
Hamburg
evening: concert for solidarity with the struggles of the Ogoni and Nigerian
democrats
Sunday, Nov.9: German-African memorial service for the Ogoni Nine
Monday, Nov.10: "Nigeria Two Years After", addresses by Olisa Agbakoba (CLO)
and Bariture Kpuinen (MOSOP) plus "Can the Truth be Purchased? - Shell,
