Shell gas agreement

SHELL SIGNS AGREEMENTS WITH NIGERIAN GAS COMPANY
Shell oil company yesterday signed long-term gas agreements with the
Nigerian Gas Company (NGC) for the supply, purchase and distribution of
gas, Shell said in a statement. The supply of gas would aid power
generation and industry in the Niger-Delta area of the country, Shell
Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria (SPDC) said. Under the agreements,
SDPC gas from Sapele gas plant will fuel the National Electric Power
Authority (NEPA) power station in that town, while gas from its Imo River
field will be used by six industries in Aba, east of Nigeria. In both
cases, the NGC will deliver the gas, the statement said. Both agreements
are for an initial renewable period of 10 years. The Sapele agreement
covers the delivery of up to 23,991 million standard cubic feet (scf) of
gas per annum, equivalent to 65.7 million scf per day. The Aba accord is
for the delivery of up to 1,155 million scf of gas per annum, or 3.2
million scf per day. From Aba, it will be distributed by SPDC to six
customers in the city. The SPDC, operator of the NNPC/Shell/Agip/Elf Joint
venture, is Nigeria's largest commercial gas supplier, meeting 90 percent
of the country's demand.
