  	NATIONAL ADVOCACY DAY

         FOR NIGERIAN DEMOCRACY

  	   WASHINGTON DC

        SEPTEMBER 15 - 16, 1997

The International ROundtable on Nigeria (IRTON), a coalition of human
rights, labor, environmental, pro-democracy, and Africa policy groups, is
sponsoring a national advocacy day on Nigeria September 15 - 16, 1997 in
Washington DC. The advocacy day will include a briefing on the Nigeria
Democracy Act (HR 1786) now in Congress. Representatives Donald Payne and
Maxine Waters have been invited to speak. A demonstration will be held
outside the Capitol building. Constituents will meet with Congressional
  staff and members of Congress.

We need to build pressure on Congress to take a strong stand against human
rights violations in Nigeria. Please plan to attend the National Advocacy
Day and make your voice heard.
