Houston-based Polo Magazine lost a match Wednesday to Ralph
Lauren.

The official magazine of the United States Polo
Association must change its name because it infringes
on the New York fashion designer's trademark, U.S.
Magistrate Mary Milloy ruled Wednesday in Dallas.

"We are pleased that the court has recognized the need
to protect our customers from the confusion
intentionally caused by the new Polo Magazine," Victor
Cohen, Polo Ralph Lauren's senior vice president and
general counsel, said in a written statement.

In her final opinion, the judge said, the magazine's "new,
glossy format and altered editorial and advertising
direction evidences an intent to trade on the reputation
and goodwill established by Polo Ralph Lauren over the
last 30 years."

Under the terms of the injunction,
Polo Magazine, which has 250,000 readers, has 90 days
to change its name.
