Crafting a Magna Carta for Cyberspace
A new consumer-group alliance may worry some E-businesses, but it's
healthy for the Internet and the search for lasting cyber government

UNPRECEDENTED GATHERING. Now a consumer protection counterpart to the
Global Business Dialogue has been created: the Transatlantic Consumer
Dialogue (TACD). An unprecedented gathering of 60 leading advocacy
groups in America and Europe, TACD plans on becoming the key voice for
consumers on critical E-business issues such as privacy, child
protection, and taxation. U.S. members include the Consumers Union,
Consumer Federation of America, and Public Citizen. The Netherlands'
Consumenten-bond, the German Association of Consumer Organizations,
and the Consumers Association of Austria are among the European
participants. Eventually, TACD hopes to invite advocacy groups from
Asia, Africa, and Latin America.

But while TACD may be a thorn in the side for many companies, in the
long run it's a plus.
