Part of this is because they go in for very expensive
ways of making films, nowadays, with lots of special effects.
This is an arms race -- everyone spends more, without affecting
profitability.

Also keep in mind that more than half of what is spent on a film is
publicity.  Actually making the film is less than half of the price.

So I think they will cope just fine with file sharing
even if file sharing is legalized.
