It took a few attempts - I had to send follow up e-mails to my original
ones to all the members but I've heard back from the Industry Trust for
IP Awareness. Their e-mail follows...

Dear Mr Davis

One of the Industry Trust members forwarded to me the correspondence
between you and his company.

It appears that you received a response to your questions via the
piracyisacrime website from our PR agency.  I haven't seen your original
enquiry, but I'm afraid the PR company didn't realise that they were
being asked a legal question.  Clearly they must have answered
incorrectly.

Please would you be kind enough to send me your original query and
identify yourself so that I can properly deal with the question
concerned.

As a matter of fact, I have pointed out the PR agency that they ought to
forward any future legal queries to me as Director of the Industry Trust
for IP Awareness and of course you are right that public domain works
lie outside copyright terms.
