    You did try to stifle the discussion, just admit it, and move on.

I tried to discourage proceeding in that particular direction, for the
reasons that I gave.  I think it is a mistake to raise disagreements
at the level of the fundamentals of ethics, where there are problems
that people have never resolved, because we are surely not going to
resolve them here.

I still think so, and I hope I have convinced others to think so.
