I don't think it is true. The Public is not interested in new plays
because they are bad. That simple.
Plus the existence of a strong PD for playwrights has a very
interesting positive effect for young creators in the sense that even
if they fail to meet their public with their own creations, they can
always get it back by playing PD stuff for free. That means that if
they lose money with their creation, they have access to a full PD
directory for free so they can go on performing their art until they
become successfull at last.
