Hi all,
OSI is funding a research project to survey open content projects
around the world and the project is looking for someone to help
survey projects in North America, mainly via web searching. They're
asking for no more than 20 hours over the next few weeks, and they
will *pay* a very decent rate. This will be a helpful dataset, and a
good way to familiarize yourselves with leading edge projects. More
information below. If you are interested or know someone else who
might be, please contact me, davidt at public-domain dot org.

More info:
I am currently coordinating a small research project...which aims at
producing a survey of open content projects in various areas around
the world.
For this project, we have created a research platform and a
questionnaire to asses projects. See http://oc.openflows.org. On this
website there
is also a defintion of what we understand as open content (basically,
any
material that can be used for derivative works). To see the data
entered so far,
simply go to the "View Research Results" section, to see the
questionnaire,
please create a user account and then go to "Submit Research Results".
The work, which should not require more than, say, 20 hours should
be done within the next 2-3 weeks, but if need be, the deadline can be
stretched a little bit.
. . .
The basic steps for the researcher are
a) locating the projects (through websearch and asking other
knowledeable
people)
b) finding the relevant information, if necessary contacting people
who work
on the project
c) fill out a questionnaire for each project.
At this phase, it's important that the researcher fills out the
questionnaire
him/herself, rather than simply asking the projects to do it. This
will help
to increase consistency in the data entry and avoid the situation
that we
have only self-selected entries.
