Hi all,
A group of people from Montral, Canada, are planing a "Salon du livre
libre" (Free book fair) to promote free litterature (and the public
domain!) during the Montral "Salon du livre" week next november. The
"Salon du livre" is a big annual book fair, where many publishers,
local and international, have kiosks to sell and promote their
books. Many authors are also invited to give talks, and usually there
is other special activities as well, some of them done in conjonction
with the local media. It receive each year a lot of media coverage.
So far our plan is to hold a "counter-event" at the exact same time,
with similar activities and contacts with the local non-mainstreem
media (like public and student radio stations), but all about free and
public domain books. We hope to attract the big media eyes with this
strategy, and thus get a chance to inform the general public about
some of the issues that concerns us.
We are thinking of printing some books on paper to display them, but
selling (only to cover material costs) copies printed and assembled on
demand or collections of texts on CDs. We also want to cover many
subjects, not just fiction, and possibly offer some free music, images
and videos as well. It would certainely be a good event to promode the
union for the public domain, and we are ready to distribute texts from
the union and give it a good coverage. We would like to have talks
about the public domain and free culture, and need people willing to
give them.
The organisation is at its very beginning. If you have ideas to
improve our event, I suggest proposing them here, since that way any
other group that would like to do somehing similar elsewere can
benefit from them. If you are interested in helping us directly,
please contact me by email.
Thanks in advance for any help provided!

PS: For now, we want to have a good part (possibly most of it) of the
event in french (as the "Salon du Livre") , but we plan to cover
english books as well.
Any help with finding good sources of public domain or free french
electronic texts would also be appreciated... We already have a
starting list of sources, but unfortunately free french texts are more
difficult to find than english ones.
