    The New York Times has an interesting response to this particular annoyance.
    They allow visitors to the archive to follow links from blogs for free, while
    other visitors searching for the same article would need to pay for access.

If that policy applies to my web site, maybe I could make such links.
It depends on how they define "blogs"--whether my site counts as one.
(It is not a conventional blog, but that part of the site is more or
less equivalent to one.)  I will fetch that page and take a look.
