[Upd-discuss] HG Wells' War of the Worlds

Hi,

I have a quick question about a specific author, HG Wells. I read recently that Steven Spielberg and Tom Cruise are going to film a new version of War of the Worlds. Does anyone know if the original novel is in the PD? According to the Gutenberg Project, there is a copyrighted version and a Public Domain version. I have no idea why there are two versions, but that's what I found during my research.
