The steering committee of the 50 Years Is Enough Network
is pleased to announce that Sameer Dossani has been hired
as the new Network Director
He will be arriving in Washington shortly, in time for the
spring meetings of the IMF & World Bank. After a
transition period, he will take over the position as sole
director in June.
Sameer has been part of the activist community working on
the international financial institutions for several
years. We first met him when he was on the staff of the
Globalization Challenge Initiative (later Citizens Network
on Essential Services) in Washington. For the last two
years, he has been Executive Director of the NGO Forum on
the Asian Development Bank, based in Manila, Philippines.
We are very pleased to have Sameer taking over the reins
at 50 Years. He is a strong activist, dedicated to
fundamental change in the global economic system. We are
confident that Network members and friends will enjoy
working with him, and will find him a fresh source of
energy and creativity.
The current director, Njoki Njoroge Njehu, will be
leaving after nearly 9 years with the Network. She is
moving back to her home country, Kenya, and will begin
work as the Executive Director of Solidarity Africa
Network in Action. Solidarity Africa?s two main programs
are: 1) a research and training institute, which will
investigate the impact of the IMF, World Bank, and African
Development Bank on the countries of East Africa, and
create advocacy strategies for economic justice; and 2)
the Daughters of Mumbi Resource Center, an organization
run for women by women, providing a safe haven from the
different types of violence women face and educating
communities about techniques to protect food security,
environmental sustainability, and gender rights. It will
also offer ?reality tours? of Kenya for people who want to
see the animals *and* the social conditions in Kenya.
