(Jakarta, 22 July 2004) More than 1000 activist from student, women,
peasant, indigenous people, labor, urban poor and environmental movements
are joining an global action of WB's 60th unhappy birthday rally in
Jakarta.

They send a clear message that World Bank has failed to full-fill its
mandate to help people climb out the poverty and promote the sustainable
development.  Most of the debt now are being peoples' burden by increased
cost of social services.  Indonesia's government is spend now more than
50% of its state budget to repay the debt service and cut education,
health and water service.

60 WALHI-Friends of the Earth activists join the protest and blame the
bank for its contribution to climate change, violence and indigenous peoples'
right abuse in many oil, gas and mining operation around the world.  WALHI
demands the bank out of the extractive industries.
