Subject: Four demands of the Bank - ENDORSE!
PLEASE CIRCULATE WIDELY...
Dear all -
As you know, the Mobilization for Global Justice had consensed on 4 key
demands of the World Bank and IMF. These demands are meant to be an
initial (but not exhaustive) answer to the inevitable question "What do
the protestors want?". Until September 11th, they served us very well
in Washington, and we had gathered hundreds of endorsements from
Southern and Northern allies - including environmental, developmental,
human rights, and labor organizations.
Next Thursday, November 15th, these demands will be re-presented to the
public and the Bank & IMF at a press conference in Ottawa. We are
looking for more sign-ons. If you've already done so, thank you - if
not, or if you're not sure, now's your chance.
Please email me steve@seen.org, and let me know if your organization can
support these demands.
Thanks, and peace,
Steve
******************************
We demand that the World Bank and International Monetary Fund:
-Open all World Bank and IMF meetings to the media and the public. and
IMF, using the institutions' own resources.
- Stop all World Bank support for socially and environmentally
destructive projects such as oil, gas, and mining activities, and all
support for projects such as dams that include forced relocation of
people.
- End all World Bank and IMF policies that hinder people's access to
food, clean water, shelter, health care, education, and right to
organize. (Such "structural adjustment" policies include user fees,
privatization, and economic austerity programs.)
