First PacBell/SBC and Ameritech merge.  This is about SBC's joint
venture with Bell South for wireless.   Don't these mergers and joint

         Telephone companies BellSouth and SBC Communications have
launched their wireless telephone joint venture, Cingular Wireless. 

         The venture expects to have about $12 billion in revenue. The
two companies combined their operations in an effort to gain broader
geographic reach, attract new customers with national pricing plans and
reduce costs.
