IFPMA World Bank Fellowship Appointment
Geneva, Switzerland, 6 June 2001 =96 We are pleased to
announce that Mr. Philip Hedger has been appointed as
the IFPMA (International Federation of Pharmaceutical
Manufacturers Associations) Fellow to the World Bank
for a two-year assignment.=A0
In this role Mr. Hedger will represent the global R&D
based industry at the Bank on a wide range of issues
and collaborative projects.=A0 The work of the Bank
spans the developmental spectrum from the least
developed countries to emerging economies.=A0 Philip
will work with the Bank in its operational, policy and
educational functions, bringing in expertise and
resources from the industry as appropriate. He will be
the point of liaison between the global industry and
the World Bank and will be based in Washington, DC.=A0
Philip Hedger currently serves as Executive Managing
Director, International Affairs, Pfizer Inc.=A0 His
portfolio of responsibilities includes various aspects
of policy work, public affairs, international
government relations and corporate affairs issues. Mr.
Hedger has served as the chair of both the PhRMA and
IFPMA committees, which primarily deal with
international issues and organizations.=A0
Mr. Hedger has Masters degrees in Management and in
European Law and is an accountant. He joined Pfizer in
1981. His career has included responsibilities in the
areas of finance, general management and licensing and
development =96 all in the international environment.
Since 1996 he has been based in New York as Executive
Managing Director of International Affairs. In this
role he managed pharmaceutical public affairs,
government relations and policy related issues in
Pfizer=92s international markets. For the past two years
he has focussed on global health policy issues
particularly in developing and emerging economies,
interacting extensively with the international and
multilateral organizations, foreign governments and
global opinion leaders. During this period he has also
been extensively involved in helping to develop
industry approaches to issues relating to public
health concerns in developing countries and the
complex issues at the nexus of health and trade.
