The UN is going to host a GA session on HIV/AIDS. I am assuming many
presentations will be made.

Do people on this list have information on how NGOs might become involved
with this session?

> HIV/AIDS: General Assembly To Hold Special Session In June
>
> The UN General Assembly on Friday decided to convene a special
session next June to comprehensively address the global HIV/AIDS
epidemic. According to the assembly, the issue is "a matter of urgency."

> In a unanimous resolution, the General Assembly declared it will
examine HIV/AIDS in Africa, international funding and cooperation, the
epidemic's economic and social impacts and human rights implications. The
resolution also asks UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan to submit a
comprehensive report on the epidemic, the international response and an
analysis of long-term impacts.

> In addition, the resolution asks the General Assembly president to
determine the form and involvement of civil society in the special
session. The assembly specifically said people living with HIV/AIDS,
nongovernmental organizations and the business sector, including
pharmaceutical companies, should be involved. The session will take place
25 - 27 June (UN Newservice, 3 Nov).
