As part of its Inquiry on the Ethics of Healthcare-related Research in
Developing Countries, the Nuffield Council on Bioethics has launched a
public consultation. We would very much welcome your input on this. In
particular, your comments on the conduct, assessment and regulation of
healthcare-related research in developing countries and your views on the
way in which ethical issues raised by such research are addressed. Please
find attached a copy of the press releasing announcing the public
consultation and the consultation document which provides further
information about the issues. The closing date for receipt of submissions
is 30 November 2000.
Further information about the Inquiry (including Working Party membership,
terms of reference, minutes of meetings) is available on the Council's web
site at www.nuffield.org/bioethics/. The web site also contains a copy of
the discussion paper, 'the ethics of clinical research in developing
countries' published in October 1999 which followed on from an
international workshop held on this topic in February 1999.
Should you have any queries regarding the consultation process or the
Inquiry as a whole, please do not hesitate to contact me.
