Protect the Privacy of Your Health Records

Earlier this year, the economic stimulus bill contained mandates for =20
converting paper health records into electronic data systems and =20
called for strong privacy protections of those records.

But now, as the Department of Health and Human Services writes the =20
detailed regulations to guide this process, there=92s a real risk that =20=

your privacy won=92t be protected after all.

That=92s because powerful special interests are lobbying heavily for =20
regulations that give hospitals and insurance companies -- not =20
patients -- control over how personal medical information is used. =20
This could leave you with no process for blocking access to critical =20
information such as the results of HIV/AIDS tests and eventually, no =20
way to correct false information in your medical records or see who is =20=

reviewing those records....
