From tobacco@licensedtokill.biz Tue Sep 12 19:00:02 2006 From: tobacco@licensedtokill.biz (Licensed to Kill, Inc) Date: Tue Sep 12 18:00:02 2006 Subject: [Licensed-to-Kill] L2K Endorses U.S. Senator George Allen (VA) for Reelection Message-ID: <45072BAD.1000406@licensedtokill.biz> LICENSED TO KILL ENDORSES REPUBLICAN GEORGE ALLEN (VA) FOR U.S. SENATE A little while ago, Licensed to Kill, Inc received a letter in the mail from Senator George Allen (http://www.licensedtokill.biz/photos/allen.jpg) praising our "past leadership in our great Commonwealth [of Virginia]" and "commitment to the Republican Party." Well said, we thought. But he didn't stop there. He then asked us to participate in a survey project that was so expensive to produce and tabulate that he could only send it to "a select few Virginia leaders." We were flattered. As George Allen correctly attested, he has always put "our needs as top priorities." Perhaps that's why our industry has a special place in our heart -- er, bottomline -- for George, and have paid him off accordingly. In fact, in this election cycle, he is the #1 recipient of tobacco money in all of the U.S. House and Senate, to the tune $91,950 (www.opensecrets.org). No wonder George thought we might be a good source of more funds! In his letter to us, George said that he wants to "continue to stand up for our shared common sense Jeffersonian conservative values." Hmmm, Thomas Jefferson's warning about the "excesses of the monied interests" doesn't quite square with corporate conservatism these days, but maybe that bit of history is best left covered up by the dusts of time and cigarette ashes. "We need to make sure the people of Virginia continue to have their voices and concerns addressed in the U.S. Senate," concluded George, "As your Senator, I want to continue to represent you and all the great people of our Commonwealth." Our company, a legal person, is sure glad that the Senator is looking out for us in our nation's capitol! Yes, it is with no qualms that we heartily endorse our industry's best friend in the U.S. Congress for reelection. George Allen simply is the best tobacco-chewin' politician that money can buy! SUGGEST A NEW CAMPAIGN SLOGAN FOR TOBACCO-FRIENDLY GEORGE! Now we understand that our friend got in a little trouble recently after blurting out a racial slur. Hopefully our endorsement will get him back on the right track. May we suggest some new campaign slogans: * George Allen, Never Met a Tobacco Company I Didn't Like * Smoke, Spit, er, Vote for George Allen! * Allen: More Smoke, Less Health Feel free to suggest others! We'll post the best on our website. Send to: tobacco@licensedtokill.biz #### EXCERPTS FROM SEN. GEORGE ALLEN'S FUNDRAISING LETTER TO LICENSED TO KILL Full letter available at: http://www.licensedtokill.biz/allen.pdf Accompanying survey: http://www.licensedtokill.biz/allensurvey.pdf Dear Friend, I need your help. My name is George Allen and I am running for re-election to the United States Senate in 2006. Your thoughts, concerns and opinions are very important to me as I begin my re-election campaign. That's why I've enclosed your Official VIRGINIA LEADERSHIP SURVEY document which has been assigned and prepared especially for you as a representative of all Virginia voters living in your area. You have been chosen to participate in this survey because of your past leadership in our great Commonwealth and your commitment to the Republican Party. This survey project is expensive to produce and tabulate so I could only send it to a select few Virginia leaders. .... Starting off as a member of the Virginia House of Delegates, then Congress, and then as Governor, I have always put you and our great Commonwealth's needs as my top priorities. I have been a steady and unwavering voice for Virginia families and small businesses -- fighting for lower taxes, less government regulation, energy that's economically feasible and greater job creation in our state. I want to continue to stand up for our shared common sense Jeffersonian conservative values. .... I know it seams early, but the national Democrat party and Democrats in Richmond are already plotting to defeat me. And I need your financial support to build up a war chest to counter the Democrats who can count on liberal supporters with deep pockets to fund their campaign against me. Because, as my dad used to say, winning is the science of being totally prepared." And my campaign needs to be prepared to stop Democrats from trying to fool the voters. That's why I need your help. We must be ready to stand up to the liberal Democrats and fight for the values you and I both cherish. We need to make sure the people of Virginia continue to have their voices and concerns addressed in the U.S. Senate. That's why I am turning to you today. As your Senator, I want to continue to represent you and all the great people of our Commonwealth.
