Please find below the text of a letter that our company's CEO sent to
Utne Reader early this week, upon hearing the news that the magazine had
reversed its long policy against running tobacco ads. As Nina Utne
wrote:
"In this issue, after much internal discussion, we are running
an ad for an additive-free tobacco [American Spirit, which is
owned by R.J.Reynolds]. I consider it a measure of my
versatility that I both do yoga and occasionally smoke, and
additive-free is certainly a better option. For some people,
there is no such thing as a good smoking option, so we know
that we may be making a controversial decision."
Nope, Nina, your decision's not in the least bit controversial for us!

Dear Utne Reader,
I would like to commend your magazine's recent decision to start
accepting tobacco advertising. Our company, Licensed to Kill, Inc, could
not be more thrilled!
For many years, your magazine has shamefully denied tobacco companies
like ours our constitutional right to free speech. Perhaps it is these
patriotic times that have inspired you to champion the true "American
Spirit," the freedom to advertise, hoodwink, and even kill in the name
of the Almighty Buck.
Yes, it is quite grand that a nice, wholesome, yoga lovin' magazine like
yours finally sees the merits of promoting death, albeit
"additive-free."
In appreciation for your new tobacco-friendly policy, our company plans
to send you some cartons of our premium cigarette brands "Throat Hole,"
"WOMD," and "Global Massacre." We hope your staff will enjoy them as
they do their "sun salutations."
