Announcing Two New Initiatives

The Global Health Council is pleased to announce two new initiatives:

    * The Trade and Health Breakfast Series
    * The Working Group on Cancer in Developing Countries

The Trade and Health Breakfast Series will feature eight sessions,
beginning in January and ending in May. Each session will bring together
experts to give informal presentations, followed by an open Q&A session
with attendees. The Breakfast Series will convene on the second and
fourth Wednesdays from 8:30-10 am at the Global Health Council office,
located at 1111 19th Street, NW, Suite 1120, Washington, D.C. Session
dates and topics are:

    * January 27:
          Trade and Health 101
    * February 10:
          Global Health Implications of Intellectual Property and TRIPS
    * February 24:
          Counterfeit and Substandard Drugs in Low Income Countries
    * March 10:
          Global Health Implications of Services and GATS
    * March 23:
          Health Workforce Migration: The Connection with Trade
    * April 14:
          WHO and WTO in Trade: Roles and Responsibilities
    * April 28:
          GATT and Medical Products
    * May 12:
          Trade, Nutrition and Food Security


The Working Group on Cancer in Developing Countries will feature monthly
sessions on the third Wednesday of the month beginning in January and
ending in May. The sessions will be from 10-11:30 am at the Global
Health Council office, located at 1111 19th Street, NW, Suite 1120,
Washington, D.C. Each session will: review the cancer burden relevant to
the topic, discuss projects currently underway to address the cancer
burden in developing countries, identify key messages that either are
working or need to be developed, and identify and prioritize policy and
advocacy priorities. The goal of this series of sessions is to develop
the research, policy and advocacy agenda to address the growing problem
of cancer in developing countries. Session dates and topics are:

    * January 20:
          Reproductive Health and Cancer
    * February 17:
          Infectious Diseases and Cancer
    * March 17:
          Lung and Other Cancers
    * April 19:
          Research and Cancer in Developing Countries
    * May 19:
          Policy Priorities Related to Cancer in Developing Countries
