Ellen t=92Hoen, who is the Senior Advisor on IP and Medicines Patent
Pool at UNITAID in Geneva, will be in NYC next week. She will be
presenting a briefing at ASC on the UNITAID initiative through which
intellectual property in medicines and diagnostics for HIV/AIDS can be
put voluntarily by patent holders into a patent pool, making IP
available for generics and other manufacturers who will pay a
licensing fee for their use. This opens up an entirely new and
exciting range of possibilities for better access to and newer
formulations of more affordable essential medicines.
