The U.S. Congress will hold a hearing on trade advisory committees on
Tuesday, July 21. The US Trade Representative is expected to testify, as
will CPATH and others.
We would appreciate *organizational signatures to a letter of support
for HR 2293 * (Van Hollen), which would create a *Public Health
Advisory Committee on Trade (PHACT),* and improve transparency and
accountability in the trade advisory committee system. Signatures by
U.S. groups will help us solicit Congressional co-sponsors.

Chairman Levin Announces Hearing on Trade Advisory Committee System
House Ways and Means Committee Trade Subcommittee Chairman Sander M.
Levin announced that the Committee on Ways and Means Subcommittee on
Trade will hold a hearing on how the system of trade advisory committees
is functioning, and on how to increase transparency and public
participation in the development of U.S. trade policy. **The hearing
will take place on Tuesday, July 21, 2009, in Room 1100, Longworth House
Office Building, beginning at 10:00 a.m.**
Reps. Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) and Lloyd Doggett (D-TX) have introduced
HR 2293 to add a Public Health Advisory Committee on Trade (PHACT) to
the influential Second Tier of the Federal Trade Advisory Committee System.
Public testimony can be submitted by August 4, 2009. See instructions
