Dear all,



The company Mepha Pharma - the No 1 generic producer in Switzerland - has b=
een granted a license by Merck Sharp & Dohme (MSD) to market in Switzerland=
 a generic version of the Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient Losartan Potassi=
um, i.e. the same API contained in the generic Indian drug that has been se=
ized by the Dutch customs authorities last December whilst transiting from =
India to Brazil.



Mepha issued a press release last week on the subject (available in French =
or German only =3D> http://www.mepha.ch/sites/fr/medias/Documents/Communiqu=
%C3%A9%20de%20presse%20Losartan-Mepha.pdf ), highlighting that the cooperat=
ion with MSD is taking place while the patent of the original product is st=
ill valid until the end of the year for the single preparation (losartan po=
tassium, Cozaar), and until the end of 2012 for the combined preparation (l=
osartan potassium combined with diuretic, Hyzaar).



If and how far these two issues are linked remains to be seen.
