THE HEALTH IMPACT FUND

The Health Impact Fund is a complement to the existing intellectual propert=
y rights regime in pharmaceuticals. The HIF will give innovators the option=
 to register their new high-impact medicines, entitling the innovator to an=
nual reward payments based on the medicine=92s global health impact. In exc=
hange, innovators agree to sell their medicines wherever they are needed at=
 the lowest feasible price.
With their price a fraction of what it would otherwise be, HIF-registered m=
edicines will be much more affordable to patients, insurance companies, nat=
ional health systems, NGOs, and international agencies. And innovators whos=
e rewards depend on improving global public health will have incentives to =
make more effective medicines.

The world-wide launch of the Health Impact Fund initiative will feature two=
 UK events:

le University) and Aidan Hollis (Associate Professor of Economics and Fello=
w of the Institute for Advanced Policy Research, University of Calgary) wil=
l introduce the Health Impact Fund at each event, followed by discussions w=
ith prominent panelists .
