entrepreneurship.
The STEM Newsletter is a biannual publication meant exclusively for STEM
membership. The publication is widely read, with a readership spanning
across the world. The latest issue of the newsletter [July 2008] will be
available soon. As usual, it carries insightful articles, views and opinions
on technology transfer and on an enabling environment for such transfers.
Featured Articles
July 2008, Vol 3 No 2
* Historical Context of U.S. Bayh-Dole Act: Implications for Indian
Government Funded Research Patent Policy
Steve O'Connor, Associate Director- CASRIP, Washington School of Law, argues
that the more nuanced ownership policy of the Kennedy Administration in the
1960s may be more appropriate for India than the bright line ownership
policy embedded in Bayh Dole.
* Software licensing Issues Arising From Alternative Delivery Models
The world has made a shift in earning value from licensing software and
other intangibles, over a one time sale of durable goods. Today, licensing
is recognized as one way of transferring value for intellectual property. In
this article, Ward Classen, Associate Deputy General Counsel, Computer
Sciences Corporation (CSC) demystifies complex software licensing models
with his simple writing.
* U.S. Patent Law with an eye on Biotechnology
Nabeela Rasheed, Partner, Howreys LLC, provides an excellent overview of the
US Patent Law, focusing on recent case laws and other changes that will
affect the heavily patent-focused biotechnology industry.
