NPR's "Tell Me More" on Thursday June 12 included a discussion with
Brazil's HIV/AIDS program director Dr. Mariangela Simao. In the
interview she discusses progress in Brazil's no-cost treatment program
and the country's efforts to collaborate with Portuguese-speaking
countries in Africa on HIV prevention. Notably, the interview begins
with a discussion of whether Brazil's use of generic antiretrovirals is
legal, including the issuance of the compulsory license for efavirenz
last year. Merck's complaint that the CL will stifle innovation is also
examined in detail later in the interview. You can listen to the
interview or order a transcript for a small fee, by clicking the link
