Here is some data and allied facts, for a better understanding of the takeo=
ver of ranbaxy by Daiichi.
 
Exports constitute almost 40% of the total production of pharmaceuticals in=
 India.
India=A2s pharmaceutical exports were estimated at $3.5bn in 2004-2005, of =
which finished drugs contribute nearly 55% and the rest 45% were =
from raw materials. Export revenue now contributes almost half of the total=
 revenue for the top 3 pharma majors: Dr Reddy=A2s, Ranbaxy and Cipla.
 
Following is the data for exports by countries (finished drugs only for the=
 top 10 export destinations). For now, I have been able to get hold of data=
 till 2002-2003, but the figures are fairly representative of the present s=
ituation.

Be interesting to know how much of Indian generic producer production is
targeted at the developed world especially since Monopolist BigPharma
states that it will increase outsourcing of production... cos it is not
just ownership that matters - your customers also matter... any research
or numbers on this?
