[Ip-health] Chris Israel: Another Bush Administration IP negotiators joins private sector

Chris Israel, the former US IP "czar" is one of a growing number of Bush
Administration IP policy trade officials join the private sector, and
lobby for various right-own groups, including PhRMA or BIO members.
Someone should consider beginning a wiki type list so we can
collaboratively keep track of the revolving door issue.

There are already quite a few former USTR, USPTO and State people
working for industry on these issues, and one senior US trade official
is rumored to be the next IFPMA chief.

DALLAS, TX: Today the Institute for Policy Innovation (IPI) announced
former U.S. Coordinator for International Intellectual Property
Enforcement Chris Israel has joined IPI as Senior Research Fellow
specializing in intellectual property and trade policy.

Chris is co-founder and managing partner of PCT Government Relations,
LLC, a bipartisan, public policy advisory firm focused on intellectual
property (IP) and technology issues (www.pctgr.com).

"We're thrilled that Chris Israel has chosen to lend his considerable
experience and expertise on trade and IP issues to IPI," said IPI
president Tom Giovanetti.

"Chris has spoken at several IPI events in the past, and we're looking
forward to his greater involvement in IPI as we communicate to the
American people and to policymakers the importance of intellectual
property protection for a dynamic and growing American economy," said
Giovanetti.

Chris is an accomplished public and private sector executive whose
leadership includes senior-level appointments by the President of the
United States, service on Capitol Hill and holding a senior-level
position within a Fortune 50 company. He is a frequent international
speaker on IP and innovation issues and was named one of the 50 "Most
Influential People on IP" by Managing Intellectual Property magazine in
2006.

In July of 2005, Chris was appointed by President Bush to be the first
U.S. Coordinator for International Intellectual Property Enforcement, in
which he led the STOP! (Strategy Targeting Organized Piracy) initiative
and the National Intellectual Property Law Enforcement Coordination
Council. Prior to being appointed Coordinator, he was Deputy Chief of
Staff to Commerce Secretaries Donald L. Evans and Carlos Gutierrez, and
before that, he was appointed by President Bush as Deputy Assistant
Secretary for Technology Policy at the Commerce Department. Prior to
serving at the Commerce Department, Chris served as Deputy Director for
International Policy at Time Warner. Earlier in his career, Chris served
on Capitol Hill for U.S. Representative Jan Meyers (R-KS) and later with
U.S. Representative Todd Tiahrt (R-KS). He received his B.A. from the
University of Kansas and an M.B.A. from The George Washington
University.
