I feel absolutely safe in asserting with no fear of contradiction that
there is no drug "invention" in which public funds are not involved, and
to an overwhelmingly significant degree in each and every case. The myth
of private invention is just that, and yet of course the patent system is
premised on social facts that existed, if at all, only in the early 18th
century when the system was initially conceived.
