AGENCY: Office of Global Health Affairs, U.S. Department of Health and

ACTION: Notice of Listening Session on the WHO Intergovernmental Working
Group on Public Health, Innovation, and Intellectual Property

SUMMARY: The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services will host an
informal listening and information session on the World Health
Organization Secretariat=92s draft Global Strategy and Plan of Action on
Public Health, Innovation and Intellectual Property, to be held on
October 10, 2007, from 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

No RSVP is needed.

SUPPLEMENTARY INFORMATION: In April 2006, the World Health Organization
(WHO) Commission on Intellectual Property Rights, Innovation, and Public
Health (CIPIH) released a Report entitled =93Public Health - Innovation
and Intellectual Property Rights.=94 Since then, an intergovernmental
working group (IGWG) was formed to develop a global strategy and plan of
action based on the recommendations of the CIPIH Report. The IGWG
published on the WHO website on July 31, 2007 a draft of the global
strategy and plan of action, which is to be discussed at the next
meeting of the IGWG from November 5 -9, 2007.
