The University of California, San Francisco Library and Center for Knowledge
Management created the Drug Industry Document Archive
(http://dida.library.ucsf.edu <http://dida.library.ucsf.edu/> ), a small
digital library of fully searchable documents from Parke-Davis primarily
about the marketing of gabapentin. We want to add documents from other
pharma companies so that journalists, attorneys, consumer groups, academic
researchers, policy makers and others can understand more fully the
pharmaceutical industry's scientific research, manufacturing, marketing,
sales and governmental relations practices. A New York City law firm is
interested in contributing 20 million pages of Merck documents that they've
received in connection with their Vioxx cases. We'll be looking for other
document when we secure funding for the project.

Our belief in the value of this project stems, partly, from our experience
as the creators of the Legacy Tobacco Documents Library
(http://legacy.library.ucsf <http://legacy.library.ucsf/> ) and the British
American Tobacco Document Archive (http://bat.library.ucsf.edu
<http://bat.library.ucsf.edu/> ), both internationally renowned resources
for the tobacco control movement. Please take a look at these libraries to
see what we have in mind for DIDA.

I'd like to get your advice as we proceed with developing DIDA, particularly
whether (how) you see this resource being helpful to people concerned with
pharmaceutical industry reform in developing countries, or elsewhere. Would
the expansion of DIDA to include millions of internal pharmaceutical
industry documents be useful to you? Are there particular drug companies or
issues about which you're interested in knowing more? Are there
organizations that you think I should contact as we plan this expansion?

Thanks in advance for your help.
