Dear reader,

the start of new rules governing how WHO's 193 Member States will handle di=
sease outbreaks and other emergencies with potential international public h=
ealth implications. In an editorial, Adrian K Ong and David L Heymann expla=
in why it was vital to revise the International Health Regulations <http://=

s of these for WHO's Member States. In this month's interview, Gu=E9na=EBl =
Rodier, director of International Health Regulations Coordination, describe=

Zuguo Mei et al. examined whether the standard deviation of height- and wei=

ta quality indicator. L Arevshatian et al. analyse whether the African Regi=
onal Strategic Plan of the Expanded Programme on Immunization <http://www.w=

ele O Abegunde et al. found that health workers, who are not qualified doct=

Andrew Page et al. investigated the effect of immigration on life expectanc=

rviews with offspring.

Tie-Wu Jia et al. estimated the age-specific disability weight of chronic s=
chistosomiasis japonica <http://www.who.int/bulletin/volumes/85/6/06-033035=
.pdf>  in China. Mark Colvin et al. found that the rates of early transmiss=
ion of HIV <http://www.who.int/bulletin/volumes/85/6/06-033639.pdf>  using =
single-dose nevirapine administered both to mothers and their children in S=
outh Africa were similar to those obtained in clinical trials in Cameroon a=
nd Kenya.

Chandrakant Lahariya analyses the current strategy to eradicate polio <http=
