86. India had taken steps to strengthen its intellectual property
rights regime. Protecting creativity and innovation was important for
encouraging investment, as well as for furthering economic development.
He enquired about India's plans to strengthen protection for
copyrights, including by implementing the WIPO Internet Treaties, trade
marks and patents, as well as plans to strengthen protection against
unfair commercial use of data generated to obtain marketing approval.
Moreover, the United States urged India to strengthen its IPR
enforcement system by, inter alia, enacting and implementing an
effective optical disc licensing scheme to combat optical disc piracy.
