Dear list members,

Over the next two months, a new DG for the World Health Organisation
will be elected. The process by which this election takes place is
wholly untransparent and devoid of effective public accountability
safeguards.

Thirty four individuals representing thirty-four countries sitting on
the Executive Board of WHO will make a decision behind closed doors with
no public explanation of the criteria used to judge the best candidate.

The Peoples Health Movement and others want to maximise transparency and
the public accountability of the 34 members of the Executive Board.

We have drafted a set of ten questions which we have put to the
candidates and we will be posting their responses on our website.

In addition, we are trying to develop a profile of each of the
candidates.

We would like to ask those members of civil society involved in IP
negotiations the following questions:
1. Do you have any information suggesting inappropriate links between
the 13 candidates and Big Pharma
2. What is the position of the candidates, as far as you know, on TRIPS,
TRIPS-Plus agreements and the newly proposed international treaty on R
and D?

Please send any information you may have to:

Updated profiles of the candidates will be made available on the PHM
website: www.phmovement.org
