Eli Lilly and Company CEO Sidney Taurel to Discuss Health Reform, Drug
Pricing and Other Issues in Live "Kaiser Conversations on Health"
The Kaiser Family Foundation will host Eli Lilly and Company Chairman and
CEO Sidney Taurel for a "Kaiser Conversations on Health" featuring an
interactive discussion before a live audience on Wednesday, May 10 from noon
to 1 p.m. E.T.
The conversation will touch on Taurel's views on key issues affecting health
care and the drug industry, such as the Pharmaceutical Research and
Manufacturers of America's voluntary guidelines for direct-to-consumer drug
advertisements; the drug development and approval process; the early impact
of Medicare's prescription drug benefit; and state and national efforts to
expand access to health coverage.
Taurel has been CEO at Eli Lilly since 1998 and chairman since 1999. He
joined the company in 1971 as a marketing associate at one of its
subsidiaries and worked in Brazil and in London before being named executive
vice president of Eli Lilly and Company and president of its pharmaceutical
division in 1993. Three years later, he was promoted to president and chief
operating officer. Taurel is past chairman and a current member of the
executive committee of the board of directors of PhRMA. He is also a member
of The Business Council and The Business Roundtable.
Previous guests on "Kaiser Conversations on Health," a series of live
interviews with leading newsmakers discussing major health issues, have
included Irish rock star Bono; Mark B. McClellan, administrator of the
Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services; Governor Mark Warner of Virginia;
Aetna CEO John W. "Jack" Rowe; and former Health and Human Services
Secretary Tommy Thompson.
