Balance of Patent royalites and licenses from 1980 in Korea. This data
was obtained from the Bank of Korea and the National Statistical
Office. The trade deficit in patent continues for 26 years in Korea,
but Korean government is trying to promote stronger patent protection
and make propaganda for its "non-existence" benifit.

This is the case for most countries excepting U.S., Japan and some
european countries. According to World Trade Office, the United States
traditionally posts a considerable balance-of-payments surplus in
intellectual-property-related trade, as measured by royalties and
licence fees. In 2004, net receipts were US$28.4 billion and gross
receipts totalled US$51.3 billion(See Trade Policy Review United
States WT/TPR/S/160 at page 83).
